‘Ka’ara’ simply means drums. These Ancestral Drums also known as “Pate” (translated as “Pulse of the Heartbeat”). The sounds of the Ka’ara in the air helps one feel the presence of our ancestors on these mountains.

This cultural experience starts with a complimentary Kia Orana Cocktail on arrival  a ‘Karakia’ – introduction , village tour, marae symbolic tapu lifting ceremony, traditional Umu feast and to top the night off our pulsating cultural show.

The entire night is hosted by the descendants of the Tinomana tribe. This unique Ka’ara Island night promises to be a great Story Telling Experience with the surrounding natural props such as rocks, valleys, mountains, people and traditional practices, serving as everlasting evidences to these stories.

    Client’s Review

    Informative & Interesting

We absolutely loved Highland Paradise. We’ve been to 3 other “Island Shows” during our visits to Rarotonga and this one was the best by far. It was so informative and it was very interesting to hear the similarities between the Cook Island’s culture and New Zealand’s. Definitely will recommend to others

    Great Cultural Experience

You don’t want to miss the island show at Highland Paradise! I know there many other place offering island shows and buffets (I have gone to 3 or 4), but I believe this is the best one. First, you get to have a guided tour of the ancient grounds/marae and get spectacular views of the island. I loved the history that you can learn. Also, the owners of Highland Paradise are always seeking ways to give back to their tribes/culture and connect with the ancestors. The have build an educational centre to help preserve and connect people with the Cook Island people and culture.

    Excellent show

We did this after the bigger Te Vara Nui Village over water show. We much preferred this event, which was more focussed on telling the history of the Islands.

The dinner was quite traditional, and great tasting. Our hosts were informative, entertaining and welcoming. Guests were invited on stage to participate in some entertainment, so beware if you are shy.

    Highly recommend this event.

    Excellent more traditional island night

Traditional island night with a lot of history on the drums, dance and costumes. Good feast and full night. Not cabaret like other island nights but enjoyable and informative.
